F1 2021 Rules Explained
F1 2021 is set to be one of the unexampled year in the history of Formula 1 because of Covid 19 pandemic. As 2021 was set to be a very important year in Formula 1 history because of the introduction of new rules that is focused on economical and equal cars , which is delayed a year due to pandemic. As teams are facing huge financial crisis , F1 organizing FIA has decided to take it's 2020 car a another year. Does it says the result are going to be same as 2020? FIA has managed to govern a set of rules , that will decrease the domination of rich teams in this sport. Here is what to look out for 2021!
COST CAP:
For the first time in history of Formula 1, a cost cap has been introduced. Teams are now restricted to spend more on car. The baseline of this cost cap for this season is set to 145 million dollars , which will be reduced further in successive years. This cost cap will cramp the space for spending more on car , thus providing teams at the bottom a chance to show up their face. Also teams are only allowed to spend 45 Millions on improving and buying facilities like machines in factory , which can be used over a period of 4 years (i.e.) up to 2024.

New floor regulation:
In previous years , a rectangular shaped floor , with slots and holes in corners. This slots were really helpful to team in increasing downforce of car by reducing the difference in pressure between the ground and upper part of floor , by dragging air up above the floor . The ground effect of the car was also high with these slots placed. But due to the massive downforce, the slicks (Tires) suffered a lot. So the FIA has to reduce the downforce by 10 percent than what it used to be before. The regulations is also stating that the whole floor must now be solid – while the floors will also feature triangular cutaways at their rear, reducing the downforce-generating surface area on cars further.

Rear Brake Duct Winglets:
A small change in rear brake duct lower half winglets is introduced, The maximum size the winglets can be is reduced to 40mm , which earlier used to be 80 mm. This winglets play a important role in generating downforce directly on the wheels. While the upper half remain the same 120mm.Source: www.formula1.com
Diffuser:
The diffuser fences are shortened by 50mm , thus not effectively sealing the diffuser , affecting the underfloor effectiveness.
All these three aerodynamical change together will contribute in reducing downforce up to 10%.

Pirelli's New Tires:
As 2020 was known to be a worst year for Pirelli , whose tires blew out at no of occasion , which is not a great news for them in market. So which Pirelli is now bringing more robust material , with new low profile 18 inch tires that make car even more stylish. With reduced downforce , and more robust compounds on tires , the lap time of the car is estimated to be increased by 1s than the previous year.

Minimum weight of car and power unit to be increased:
Minimum weight of the car is increased from 746 kg to 752 kg , while the power unit is increased by 5kg from 145 kg. This will now stop teams from using expensive materials to reduce weight.
New Materials :
A nice one to end on. With Formula 1 always keen to embrace burgeoning technologies, the Technical Regulations have been opened up to allow new green materials to play a part in the sport – with the FIA giving the greenlight for “flax, hemp, linen, cotton and bamboo” to feature in F1. We wait to see how teams will exploit this particular regulation.
